57% increase in new hires after site launch within two years
This multi-disciplinary approach to business growth combines strategy, user experiences, and technology, enabling rapid transitions between problem-solving and value delivery. To drive this exponential growth and achieve business objectives, attracting and retaining top talent is essential.
The Problem
Currently, the career site lacks compelling content to attract the right talent. Moreover, the absence of brand storytelling makes it hard for candidates to align themselves with Avanade's mission and values. Our new design approach aims to engage audiences and meet their expectations. This allows candidates to embark on a tailored journey with content that speaks to their interests and aspirations, creating a candidate-centric experience.
My Role
As the design lead for this project, I led a team of two UX/UI designers and a content designer from the initial research phase through to the final hand-off to development.
We commenced with thorough research and data analysis, encompassing competitor benchmarking, navigation analytics, content audits, interviews, and surveys. Through this comprehensive process, we identified several key factors essential to candidates:
Transparency
Candidates expressed a strong desire for a clear understanding of the actual responsibilities involved in each role.
Culture
It became evident that understanding the company culture, values, and how these values manifest in daily work experiences was crucial for candidates.
Authenticity
Candidates highly valued hearing directly from employees, rather than solely relying on corporate communications.
Focus on Work
While career development is important, candidates prioritized gaining a clear understanding of the specific work they would be performing before joining the company.
Site Structure
Content Organization: Mapping the structure of storytelling content with a focus on six targeted personas.
User Functionality: Incorporating features that allow users to save and follow up on job opportunities.
Visuals
We replaced the generic stock photos on the existing site with authentic photographs of Avanade employees, creating a more relatable and engaging experience. The content was tailored to provide a personalized experience for candidates with diverse areas of expertise.
To enhance the visual appeal, we incorporated Avanade's most recognizable brand symbol—the waves—as dynamic dividers between content sections on each page. These wave elements feature subtle parallax movement, creating an engaging and visually dynamic transition between sections.
Each persona begins by showcasing an actual Avanade employee's passion for their career path, mirroring the candidate's interests in the same role. A CTA button linked with the header image takes candidates directly to the job search board, eliminating the need to scroll down the page.
The rest of the content supports the persona by using storytelling to guide the audience from a current situation, through a disruption, to a transformed outcome.
"Wave" is Avanade's core identity, symbolizing adaptability, scalability, and resilience. We visually enhanced Avanade's brand identity and tone of voice to resonate with candidates through compelling storytelling. This approach helps candidates understand the realities of life at Avanade and the end-to-end work experience. Additionally, the new site streamlines the application process, making it easy to find open positions and locations quickly.
